Joomla contact form extensions

Tried to find a useful contact form extension (non commercial) for Joomla. After trying multiple extensions I almost gave up on finding a usefull one. Most are extremely limited in functionality and need a commercial license to get the full functionality.

At last I found ‘aiContactSafe’. It works out of the box, you don’t need a engineering degree to configure the contact form and is highly flexible (multiple forms possible, custom field layout).

The is worth mentioning and hopefully saves other people the agonising search for a good contact form extension.

How to disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (IE ESC) in Windows Server 2008/2003

Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration places your server and Microsoft Internet Explorer in a configuration that decreases the exposure of your server to potential attacks that can occur through Web content and application scripts. As a result, some Web sites may not display or perform as expected. In my personal openion opera webbrowser is more safer than IE/firefox.

If you only need to access the web every now and then from a server or if you are working on a test server, then you can disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration.

For Windows Server 2003 Users

I didn’t find a way to turn it off in the IE configuration and It seems one has to uninstall it: Go to Control Panel, then Add or Remove Programs, then click on Add/Remove Windows Components uncheck the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration and click on next.

For Windows Server 2008 Users

In Windows Server 2003, one has to uninstall the corresponding Windows Component. In Windows Server 2008, this doesn’t work anymore. You have to click on the root folder in Server Manager. Then you scroll down to the Security Information Section and click “Configure IE ESC”. You can turn off IE ESC for Administrators and/or for users. The latter probably only makes sense in a Terminal Server environment.

That’s all folks !

RD session host (Terminal Services on Windows 2008 R2)

Ran into a license issue when configuring RD session host on SBS2011 and using user CAL’s.

The license manager kept complaining about the lack of appropriate licenses. The user CAL licenses were added, but for some reason the license type could be set tot “user”, but after a refresh showed “administrative remote desktop” again.

Finally figured out how to solve this :
By applying the Set the Remote Desktop licensing mode Group Policy setting.

This Group Policy setting is located in Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Licensing and can be configured by using either Local Group Policy Editor or the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC). Note that the Group Policy setting will take precedence over the setting configured in Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.

Is Internet Explorer For The Dumb? A New Study Suggests Exactly That…

A Vancouver based Psychometric Consulting company, AptiQuant, has released a report on a trial it conducted to measure the effects of cognitive ability on the choice of web browser. AptiQuant offered free online IQ tests to over a 100,000 people and then plotted the average IQ scores based on the browser on which the test was taken. And the results are really not that surprising. With just a look at the graphs in the report, it comes out pretty clear that Internet Explorer users scored lower than average on the IQ tests. Chrome, Firefox and Safari users had just a teeny bit higher than average IQ scores. And users of Camino, Opera and IE with Chrome Frame had exceptionally higher IQ levels.

So the question is, what browser are you using ?

The report can be found here and a link to the AptiQuant website here.

UPDATE (2011-08-03) : As it turns out, this is a hoax; the company only exists a month. None the less a fun conclusion …

VMware Esxi 4.1 and SNMP

With the VMware ESXi free edition it’s not possible to configure the ESXi server using vSphere CLI commands. However there is another way to edit the SNMP settings.

  1. Stop all virtual machines on the ESXi host
  2. Enable SSH access to the ESXi host (configuration -> software -> Security profile)
  3. SSH to ESXi IP-address
  4. logon with user ‘root’ and enter password
  5. go to folder etc/vmware
  6. make a backup copy of snmp.xml
  7. edit (use vi) snmp.xml and set it like this

YouTube turn off suggested videos when the video ends

While embedding Youtube code on a web page I was wondering how to turn off suggested videos when the video ends.

Finally I found the solution :

  • Copy the code from YouTube to embed the video on a site.
  • The code contains two parts that start with www.youtube  and so on. These parts are between double qoutes.
  • Add following code just before the closing double quotes (so twice on each line of code):

Install Virtualbox 4 on Ubuntu Lucid (10.04)

Install VirtualBox 4.0.x (Stable) In Ubuntu, using the Repository

As you probably know, starting with VirtualBox 4.0.x some features are now available separately, in an extension pack. Here are the step-by-step instructions on installing both VirtualBox and the Extensions Pack in Ubuntu.

Install VirtualBox 4.0 in Ubuntu

1. Remove any previous VirtualBox version you had installed.
Presuming you were using version 3.2, you would have to run the following command:
sudo apt-get remove virtualbox-3.2
